It's customary on the island to throw toilet paper in the small trash bin next to the toilet. This isn't unique to our property. You'll see it everywhere. The reason is pretty simple - septic systems are not like those we have in large cities in North America! They are designed to be eco-friendly and self-cleaning, but if we put paper in the system, it eventually builds up and creates large-scale function problems. Not to mention a huge stinky mess.
So sure, the smell of a peepee poopoo trash next to the toilet in your beautiful vacation home can be quite the mood killer, transforming what should be a serene and relaxing getaway into an uncomfortable experience. It's like trying to enjoy a spa experience while sitting next to a dumpster—ew. The presence of unpleasant odors can linger in the air, making even a skunk blush. We are so pleased to introduce to you, the Bidet!
Not that you were curious, but we were. Bidet is a French word for 'pony', and in Old French, bider meant 'to trot'. This etymology comes from the notion that one "rides" or straddles a bidet much like a pony is ridden. The word bidet was used in 15th-century France to refer to the pet ponies that French royalty kept. So let us take you for ride...
A bidet is, simply put, a tushy washer. It's a little device installed on the back rim of the toilet, beneath the seat, that allow you to rinse your nethers with a gentle stream of warm or cool water. Customarily, in households where this is the norm, there is a cloth towel for each person to pat dry the clean nethers, rather than using pesky thin toilet paper that crumbles when it's wet. This not only prevents you from having disintegrating, feathering wet TP in your hands after using the bidet, but also conserves toilet paper and the septic system, which in turn is an environmentally friendly way to preserve the littoral mangrove forest around the casitas.
Not only does it promote cleanliness and hygiene, but it also elevates the overall experience of using the restroom to levels previously reserved for five-star spas. With its gentle streams of water, the bidet provides a refreshing alternative to traditional toilet paper—think of it as a mini water park for your behind! The bidet is designed to enhance your personal hygiene routine while also being environmentally friendly, reducing the need for excessive paper products. It’s like giving Mother Nature a high-five while you’re doing your business! Nobody should have to hold their breath while answering nature’s call or showering!
Whether you are visiting Conservation Casitas with your family (it's an excellent rinsing tool for cloth diapers!) or on your honeymoon, the bathroom pony will be a hit - we promise. It takes a little getting used to, but by the end of your trip, you'll be wanting one at home. And just to help you with your shopping, here's the link. You're welcome!
